U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, tweeted his opposition to the executive order Saturday night. “Enough with this hate and fear,” Doggett tweeted. “We are a land of immigrants. A #MuslimBan would hurt us all. #NoBanNoWall.”

Several state officials and activists weighed in on Abbott’s proposals over the past few days. U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, said in a statement on Wednesday he supports Hernandez’s fight to keep out ICE agents and that Abbott’s actions are unconstitutional. “Neither Gov. Abbott nor the Legislature have any authority to remove a duly elected sheriff, whose office is established by the Texas Constitution,” Doggett said in the statement.
Relations between the U.S. and Mexico crumpled Thursday after President Enrique Pena Nieto canceled his visit to Washington next week, protesting President Trump’s executive order to American officials to begin building his border wall.
“What carnage,” said Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Texas Democrat, reprising Mr. Trump’s own words from his inaugural address last week.
A firestorm erupted from Democrats following Abbott’s announcement. The normally reserved U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett defended Hernandez at a press conference alongside members of Austin’s immigrant community. “If Greg Abbott thinks he can remove Sally Hernandez from office he would be acting in violation of not only the Texas Constitution but in total disregard for the bill of rights of the United States Constitution,” Doggett said.
