When President Lyndon Johnson served in Congress, he represented much of what is currently called the 25th Congressional District. As President Johnson fought for and passed Medicare, to assure our seniors the peace of mind they have earned after a lifetime of work, as a senior member of the Budget and Ways and Means Committees in Congress, Rep. Doggett has worked to expand this commitment for every American family.
After the 2010 Census, Republicans aimed to achieve through redistricting what they couldn’t at the polls, drawing Rep. Doggett out of office. But the Department of Justice found the GOP map violated the Voting Rights Act and a federal court issued an interim map. This new interim congressional redistricting map reconfigures Rep. Doggett’s 25th District to include downtown Austin and Western Hays County. At a press conference at his East Austin home surrounded by his family, Rep. Doggett expressed his satisfaction with the new map and his desire to continue serving as a progressive voice in Washington for Central Texas families’ values.
“While disappointed to lose formal representation for communities with which I have worked so closely, like Lockhart, San Marcos, Kyle and Bastrop, I will continue to work with many friends there,” said Rep. Doggett.
Being open and listening to neighbors is a commitment he takes seriously. Congressman Doggett holds “Neighborhood” office hours wherever families gather. He’ll bring his office and listen to whatever concerns citizens have. Making himself accessible and available to meet with neighbors is how he ensures he is representing Texas in Washington.
