Since 1995, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett has put his experience in Congress to work for the people of Central Texas . He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which is in charge of our tax laws, trade policy, Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Doggett also serves on the House Budget Committee, which drafts the annual budget for the federal government, and the Joint Economic Committee which advises Congress on economic policy.
Lloyd Doggett has worked to control wasteful spending, protect our
environment, and support public education. He believes that Congress should live by the same rules that the
rest of America does – and has voted for a “pay as you go” rule that would force budget discipline on the
federal government. In the past, he has been recognized by national non-partisan organizations, such as the
Concord Coalition, for his efforts to cut the deficit. Taxpayers for Common Sense, another non-partisan budget
watchdog group, has ranked Lloyd Doggett as the number one most fiscally responsible Congressman in Texas
four years in a row.
In Congress, Lloyd Doggett has fought to protect our natural resources. He was the
first person to be honored as an Environmental Champion by the Texas League of Conservation Voters.
Lloyd Doggett has earned a perfect score from both the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters
for his environmental voting record in Congress, and received an "A" from the American Wilderness Coalition.
Lloyd Doggett has been a strong supporter of public schools. He believes that all children should get all the education for which they are willing to work. His wife, Libby, previously taught in Austin public schools and is now the director of a nationwide non-profit dedicated to early childhood education. Lloyd was recently inducted into the Austin Independent School District Hall of Fame for his untiring support of our schools.
